Cowan Insurance Group, a leading independent insurance intermediary and consulting operation, is seeking a highly skilled Underwriter to join its Broker Services Team. Reporting to the Director, Broker Services, this role is a key part of a team responsible for underwriting personal and commercial accounts, including marine pleasure craft, self-storage, and high-risk residential programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting underwriting in accordance with guidelines and rules applicable to the programs
  • Providing quotes on new business, processing renewals, policy changes, and cancellations
  • Developing relationships with broker networks
  • Assisting management in implementing new programs, systems, and procedures
  • Participating in process and product improvement and documentation, program audits, annual program reviews, carrier relationship building, systems changes, and claims

Requirements:

  • RIBO license or ability to obtain
  • Working towards CIP designation an asset
  • Knowledge of various underwriting tools an asset, such as BVS, etc.
  • Lloyds coverholder processes and bordereaux experience an asset
  • Knowledge of boats and marine coverage would be an asset (either power or sail)
  • Product and policy analysis capabilities
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products
