Role Overview: The Plant Science Mechanic Research Technician plays a crucial role in supporting research initiatives within the agricultural sector.
- Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Responsible for the upkeep of vehicles and machinery utilized in research activities, seed production, and agricultural operations.
- Repair and Storage: Conduct repairs and ensure proper storage of agricultural research tools, vehicles, engines, and various types of machinery.
- Problem Solving: Identify mechanical issues, develop effective solutions, and recommend enhancements to existing processes.
- Operational Knowledge: Operate farm machinery and possess a solid understanding of agricultural practices in western Canada.
- Qualifications: A minimum of Grade 12 education along with a journeyman's certificate or equivalent practical experience is required.
- Certifications: Training in WHMIS, CPR/First Aid, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods is essential.
- Field Equipment Experience: Demonstrated experience in the safe operation of field equipment, maintenance tasks, and small engine repairs.
- Welding Skills: Basic understanding of welding and fabrication techniques is beneficial.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills are necessary, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
