Role Overview

The Government of Alberta's Forestry Division is seeking a skilled and culturally sensitive individual to fill the role of Indigenous Liaison Specialist. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, cultural knowledge, and the ability to navigate complex consultation and engagement processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations, as well as stakeholders and representative organizations on behalf of the Division.
  • Lead and/or support the development and implementation of policy, protocols, guidance, procedures, and best practices to build and maintain Divisional competencies and cultural awareness.
  • Support Forestry's participation on cross-ministry groups addressing Indigenous issues relevant to forestry activities in the province.

Requirements

The successful candidate must possess exceptional interpersonal skills, a high degree of cultural knowledge and awareness, and the ability to navigate and articulate complex issues. The incumbent must also be able to lead and facilitate conversations, analyze and apply learnings from Indigenous communities back to Division staff.

Working Environment

The role involves managing complex and politically sensitive consultation and engagement processes. The successful incumbent will be responsible for developing responses to both emerging and systemic issues effectively.
