Product Compliance Engineer

What will your role entail at Ciena?
The engineering division is in search of a seasoned product integrity compliance engineer. The ideal candidate will join a product integrity team responsible for ensuring global regulatory and commercial compliance for cutting-edge packet optical transport and switching solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Under the mentorship of senior compliance specialists, collaborate closely with product development teams to establish regulatory and commercial testing requirements, develop and manage compliance initiatives, provide guidance on product compliance risk mitigation activities, and outline testing prerequisites for customer laboratory interactions. This encompasses design, documentation, and marking criteria to fulfill the requirements for regulatory and commercial conformity.
General Duties
Support EMC engineers and collaborate with design leads to define initial product integrity architectural requirements in the realms of EMC, safety, and homologation. Partner with product development leads to outline and strategize testing programs that validate compliance with relevant EMC, safety, and commercial standards. Work in conjunction with testing partners during the execution of compliance testing programs to verify adherence and secure reports and certifications. Assist sales and field support teams with customer inquiries related to compliance issues, bid proposals, and conformity assessments. Aid global account teams in product homologation processes.Collaboration with Stakeholders
Design teams – electrical, mechanical, thermal, and industrial design Account and systems engineering teams that support customers. External testing facilities and EMC/safety specialists Finance leads for quarterly and annual budget oversightRequired Experience
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering A minimum of 10 years of experience with global/international EMC standards, product safety standards, and commercial standards within the telecom networking sector. Proficient understanding of global/international EMC standards relevant to ITE and Telecom Networking, including CISPR 32 / EN 55032, CISPR 35 / EN55035, CISPR 24 / EN 55024, FCC Part 15, ICES-003, ETSI EN, IEC/EN 61000-X-Y Familiarity with ITE product safety standards is advantageous: IEC/UL/EN, IEC/EN, IEC/EN, IEC/EN Knowledge of various country approvals, regulatory marks, and homologation processes is preferred. Understanding of commercial standards/specifications in the telecom networking domain is beneficial: Telcordia GR-63-CORE, Telcordia GR-1089-CORE, Telcordia GR-3108, Telcordia GR-487, ETSI EN X-Y, ETSI EN Y Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are essential. Familiarity with communication protocols (OTN, Ethernet, SONET, Fiber Channel) is a plus.
