Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP) to become a vital member of the Solid Organ Transplant team at Vancouver General Hospital. We invite you to be part of our esteemed team.
The Liver Transplantation Program at Vancouver General Hospital comprises a dynamic multidisciplinary team, including Physicians, Nurse Coordinators, Psychologists, Pharmacists, Addiction Specialists, and Dieticians. This field is incredibly fulfilling, as the team supports patients transitioning from living with liver failure to thriving with a new, functioning liver.
As a Nurse Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in caring for inpatients post-liver transplantation, actively participating in the evaluation of candidates for liver transplantation, and providing long-term follow-up care in an outpatient setting. A comprehensive training plan will be provided to facilitate your transition into this role. The Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) may be negotiable.
VCH is excited to offer reimbursement for the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) costs for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) who are hired into regular or temporary positions and have not yet completed the exam. This reimbursement will be provided as a forgivable loan, which will be waived after one year of continuous employment.
Responsibilities of the Nurse Practitioner at VCH include:
Conducting comprehensive assessments of patients and clients, including diagnosing diseases and conditions. Initiating treatment plans, including healthcare management, therapeutic interventions, and prescribing medications in line with statutory and regulatory standards. Offering professional guidance to fellow health professionals and functioning autonomously within interdisciplinary health teams. Collaborating with clients and other health professionals to identify and assess trends that impact clients, families, and communities. Developing and implementing evidence-based strategies to enhance health and participating in policy-making and quality improvement initiatives. Engaging in peer and program reviews to evaluate service outcomes at client, community, and population levels. Taking responsibility for personal professional development and maintaining competence in the role. Reporting to an Operational Director, Professional Practice, and being accountable for quality assurance and patient safety within the Regional Department of Nurse Practitioners.Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) along with four years of relevant clinical nursing experience. Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is mandatory.Knowledge & Skills
Proficiency in performing the full scope of NP duties and responsibilities. Ability to apply knowledge of developmental stages, behavioral sciences, pathophysiology, and evidence-based practices to clinical diagnosis and patient management. Capability to communicate effectively with patients and families regarding health findings, diagnoses, treatment options, and prognosis. Competence in critically assessing health research literature to identify best practices and introduce evidence-based education. Ability to recognize population health trends and implement strategies for prevention and health promotion. Leadership skills within a program and team environment. Physical capability to fulfill the duties of the position.Important Note
