From the epic saga of Star Wars to the thrilling adventures of Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Transformers, and The Avengers, ILM continues to push the boundaries of visual storytelling.

They collaborate closely with creative teams in a dynamic and highly interactive film production atmosphere, spanning studios in various global locations.

Role Summary

This position is classified as Hybrid, requiring the employee to work 2-3 days on-site at a designated company location, with the possibility of occasional remote work.

The role encompasses a diverse array of responsibilities related to operational support, tasks, and projects across the entire systems technology stack at the ILM Vancouver studio. This includes the design and maintenance of studio infrastructure, as well as proficiency in low-level hardware and software integration. The individual in this role will be a subject matter expert on all facets of Linux, our primary production operating system, and will champion the adoption, deployment, and enhancement of open-source solutions.

Oversee and maintain the integrity of the core infrastructure that supports our production environment, including workstations, servers, storage, network, and security. Enhance and update existing systems and services, prioritizing performance, security, and reliability while focusing on improving observability and tracking key metrics. Lead technical projects from conception to completion, and at times, collaborate as a contributor to others' initiatives. Address ad hoc requests and requirements from creative and technology leadership, collaborating with others to define needs and propose actionable solutions. Influence our technology strategy and the future of our infrastructure and services by exploring innovative methodologies or solutions that could enhance our operations. Uphold systems administration standards and practices through comprehensive documentation and playbooks.

Qualifications

A collaborative mindset with a willingness to work alongside others without ego. A motivated and adaptable self-learner, skilled at quickly acquiring new technical knowledge and integrating internal and external resources. A creative problem solver focused on developing sophisticated and scalable solutions. A passion for designing, building, and supporting diverse systems in a high-performance, multi-platform production environment. Experience and enthusiasm for open-source and Linux software. A degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience with a proven track record in a technical field. Exceptional customer service skills delivered with empathy and care. An agile and flexible mindset, comfortable with changing requirements and objectives. Significant experience managing updates and configurations for Linux-based infrastructure at scale. Proficiency in automating workflows and providing ad hoc solutions using bash, Python, or other programming languages. Experience in administering and supporting a multi-OS environment, including Linux, Windows, and macOS for both server and desktop systems. Excellent documentation skills, capable of writing for both technical and non-technical audiences. Familiarity with cloud or cloud-like infrastructure and services, including virtual and bare-metal servers, storage, and networking. Previous experience in visual effects, gaming, or similar creative studio environments is advantageous.
