Job Summary

Fraser Health is seeking a skilled Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to implement rehabilitative treatment plans and programs.

Responsibilities
  1. Implement designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan/program, including activities of daily living, mobility, and strengthening and balancing exercises.
  2. Monitor and report cognitive and functional changes in patient ability or behavior, and progress treatment plans within established parameters.
  3. Contribute to the planning, implementation, modification, and evaluation of rehabilitative treatment plans/programs as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  4. Perform various tests, such as the Berg Balance, Timed Up and Go (TUG), and six-minute walk test, and record and report relevant data for interpretation by the therapist.
  5. Prepare and apply therapeutic treatment modalities, including transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS), neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), hot packs, ice, and wax treatments.
  6. Provide functional skills training to patients and families in activities of daily living, mobility, and communication, and demonstrate the use of assistive devices.
  7. Assist with power and manual wheelchair mobility training, and maintain therapy equipment and supplies.
  8. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
