Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Specialist to join our team at Brunel. As an HSE Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with HSE codes and legislation, promoting a culture of safety, and implementing effective health, safety, and environmental programs within our mining operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compliance and Risk Management
    • Ensure compliance with HSE policies and procedures, as well as local, provincial, and federal regulations.
    • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with HSE standards.
  • Training and Development
    • Provide HSE training and support to all employees, ensuring that safety practices are understood and followed.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting
    • Investigate and report on incidents, accidents, and near-misses, recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate with management and field staff to promote a proactive safety culture and address any HSE concerns.
  • Record Keeping and Data Management
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to HSE activities, including training logs, inspection reports, and incident reports.
  • Technology and Software
    • Utilize web-based HSE software and applications to track and manage HSE data.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 or more years of experience in a similar HSE role, ideally within the mining industry.
  • Experience in project management, preferably in mining or construction.
  • Strong understanding of HSE codes and legislation, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical, site-based setting.
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CRSP, CHSC) is considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both field and management staff.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to proactive prevention of potential incidents.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, contributing to a collaborative and safety-focused work environment.
  • Flexible schedule, with the possibility of rotational shifts.
  • Underground mining experience is an asset.
  • Ontario Common Core modules are an asset.
