Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide instructional support to students with special needs, implementing educational programs as determined by the teacher/resource team/administrator.
  • Assist students with daily activities, such as completing education tasks, and provide feedback for completion.
  • Construct and locate instructional materials, games, displays, and learning centers.
  • Operate computers, audiovisual equipment, and adaptive technology as required.
  • Supervise students during activities, such as in the classroom, gym, school, playground, and community field trips.
  • Assist with behavior management programs, providing person/health care and physical safety assistance to students as needed.
  • Attend team and parent professional development meetings as required.
Qualifications and Attributes:
  • Grade 12 or equivalency.
  • Current CPI status.
  • Level 1 First Aid Certificate (may be required).
  • Education Assistant Certificate, including documented training in areas such as pervasive developmental disorders, developmental and sensory needs, and technology-assisted programs.
  • Proven ability to remain calm in difficult situations and develop positive relationships with students.
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to be an integral part of a team.
