Position Overview

We are currently on the lookout for a Manufacturing Engineering Co-op Student. The selected individual will assist the Manufacturing Engineering team with various responsibilities, focusing on optimizing product production and testing processes while contributing to the new MDA Space facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Analyze manufacturing techniques and processes under the mentorship of Manufacturing Engineers, focusing on:
    1. Design
    2. Fabrication
    3. Assembly
    4. Tooling
    5. Materials
  2. Enhance manufacturing efficiency by assessing:
    1. Workflow
    2. Space utilization
    3. Equipment arrangement
  3. Support product and process quality initiatives by assisting with:
    1. Development of testing methodologies and equipment
    2. Evaluation of finished product and process capabilities
    3. Establishment of quality standards
    4. Verification of manufacturing procedures
  4. Engage in product development discussions and aid in implementing recommendations for design modifications to improve manufacturing and assembly.
  5. Contribute to standardization efforts, including:
    1. Adopting 5S practices in workspaces
    2. Streamlining processes through documentation and lean methodologies
    3. Creating quick-win solutions to transition from current to desired states
Qualifications:

Ideal candidates should possess foundational Manufacturing Engineering skills typical of a college student in their first, second, or third year, or relevant field experience, alongside:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Understanding of:
  1. MRP systems (e.g., LN, SAP, etc.)
  2. Lean principles (Value Added/Non-Value Added, cycle times, lead times, Value Stream Mapping)
  3. Design for Manufacture (DFM)
  4. Design for Assembly (DFA)
  5. Documentation for manufacturing processes
Familiarity with PowerBI, Excel VBA, and SQL for data visualization and analyticsKnowledge of production and testing layout design, including ergonomics and safety considerationsA proactive, enthusiastic, and positive mindsetStrong organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenAbility to work effectively under pressureCapability to work independently and collaboratively within a teamAdditional Information:

Successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain security clearance at the reliability status level and pass assessments for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
