Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

As the Program Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will facilitate professional nursing practices that enhance the delivery of client-centered care. Utilizing your expertise in child and youth development, emotional and psychological support, and medical management, you will assist clients in the community and those residing in residential programs. You will collaborate within an interdisciplinary team, providing treatment, developing care plans with other professionals, and sharing your knowledge to optimize care for clients and their families. This position is governed by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union on behalf of its local 213.

Your duties will include:

  • Conducting comprehensive physical, emotional, and developmental assessments
  • Managing medication in accordance with established medical directives
  • Providing individual, family, and group counseling as appropriate
  • Engaging in cognitive behavioral and other therapeutic modalities as required and within your scope of practice
  • Serving as a liaison and consultant within the program team and with external healthcare providers, laboratories, and pharmacies
  • Additional responsibilities may include:
    • Overseeing the systematic collection of laboratory results and developmental assessments
    • Organizing and participating in psychiatric consultations, including follow-up and management of psychiatric care plans
    • Supporting youth in residential care to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including managing potential medication side effects
    • Educating and guiding children, youth, and families on health and wellness issues, normal growth and development, and mental health concerns
    • Providing training and support to child and youth workers and staff as necessary

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent**
  • Active member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Proof of Personal Professional Liability Insurance
  • Recent experience and expertise in mental health and psychiatry
  • Knowledge of typical child and youth growth and development
  • Strong nursing clinical assessment and intervention skills
  • Experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Proven facilitation, communication, and counseling abilities
  • Excellent goal-directed, solution-focused interpersonal skills
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required
  • Fluency in French (written and oral) is an asset.
