The Senior Security Engineer for Cloud Systems plays a pivotal role within the Security Vulnerability Management team, focusing on the design and implementation of robustly secure cloud infrastructures. This position emphasizes the importance of security best practices, proactively identifying and addressing risks, vulnerabilities, and security misconfigurations, while guiding the organization to align security measures with its business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to architect, deploy, and sustain secure cloud and application infrastructures, with a focus on network segmentation, access controls, encryption, monitoring, and vulnerability management. Promote security best practices and proactive threat mitigation across the organization. Develop and uphold cloud security standards, utilizing industry frameworks (such as NIST and CIS) and recommendations from cloud service providers. Assess designs and architectures for potential vulnerabilities, recommending risk mitigation strategies. Ensure the effective integration of cloud security solutions across both cloud and on-premises environments.

Success Factors:

Establish strong relationships within SRE teams to effectively advocate for security initiatives and drive organizational improvements. Attain a comprehensive understanding of Lightspeed's intricate cloud environments. Manage and lead complex cloud security projects from inception to completion, engaging with stakeholders as necessary. Achieve a measurable reduction in organizational risk through enhanced cloud architecture, controls, and remediation of vulnerabilities.

Required Experience:

7 years of extensive hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and managing security within large-scale cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.). Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, cybersecurity, network engineering, or a related field. Significant experience in aligning systems with regulatory standards (such as PCI DSS and SOC2) and conducting risk assessments. Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Security Specialty, Azure Security Engineer, or Google Cloud Certified Professional Security Engineer. Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects. Conduct regular risk and vulnerability assessments of cloud infrastructures, applications, and data. Prioritize and manage vulnerabilities based on severity and potential impact. Collaborate closely with cloud architects, engineers, developers, and operations teams to enhance security posture based on assessment findings. Participate in incident response and assist in remediation efforts. Research and evaluate security tools and technologies suitable for the organization's vulnerability management program. Mentor fellow security team members, enhancing expertise across various cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure). Develop automation solutions to detect, alert, and protect against malicious activities. Generate reports and metrics to monitor vulnerability trends, remediation progress, and compliance with security standards.

Additional Requirements:

Availability for on-call incident response. Contribute to the broader team objectives, even when tasks extend beyond the immediate scope of your role.

Essential Skills:

Experience with Application Vulnerability Management, SAST, and DAST. Familiarity with Vulnerability Management tools such as Rapid7 InsightAppSec, Snyk, and Crowdstrike Falcon. Expert-level knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) and security principles. In-depth understanding of security principles, access controls (IAM), network security, encryption, vulnerability management, threat modeling, and incident response. Expertise in designing and implementing cloud security architectures. Knowledge of security frameworks, regulations, and compliance requirements. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Proficient in cross-functional collaboration. Ability to adapt to a complex and dynamic environment.
