About the Role

The MRI Imaging Specialist plays a crucial role in the daily operations of designated MRI facilities. This position involves overseeing the instruction of students and guiding staff, including hospital personnel and maintenance teams. The specialist is responsible for ensuring that patient requisitions align with departmental standards and correlating clinical histories with the examinations to be conducted. The MRI Imaging Specialist will carry out complex imaging procedures under the indirect supervision of a radiologist, while also providing patient care.

Safety is paramount in this role. The specialist must consistently apply all safety protocols related to magnetic and radio frequency fields, ensuring the protection of themselves, patients, colleagues, and the public at all times.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technology
  • Certification from the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) in MRI
  • Licensure from the Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP)
  • Prior experience in MRI is preferred
  • Proficiency in I.V. insertion
  • Ability to make independent decisions regarding diagnostic results, recognizing the significance of visualized structures, and adapting techniques in various circumstances
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated on new equipment and procedures
  • Excellent patient care skills, demonstrating courtesy and effective communication
  • Proficient in operating computer systems for patient information management
  • Highly adaptable and capable of critical thinking as part of a dynamic team
  • Competency in additional languages is an asset, with French being preferred
Work Schedule
  • Permanent part-time position; 37.5 hours biweekly
  • Availability for call and shift work, including evenings, nights, and weekends
Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $39.96. Successful candidates may also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, along with a defined benefit pension plan.

Additionally, candidates may be eligible for a signing bonus ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 and relocation assistance up to $5,000, contingent upon a defined Return of Service contract.
