Black & McDonald Limited is expanding its Western Utilities division. We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative professional to enhance our innovative team.
The Electrical Superintendent role is based in Edmonton, AB, and typically reports to the Site Supervisor. This position primarily involves overseeing and guiding a Traffic Signal team in the construction and maintenance operations along the West Valley Line Corridor. Key responsibilities include:
• Comprehensive understanding of the project scope, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
• Leading teams in safety meetings, mentoring, and training initiatives.
• Planning, scheduling, and directing construction and maintenance crews to ensure safe and productive work in the field.
• Interpreting traffic designs, electrical schematics, construction plans, and related project documentation.
• Providing leadership and direction for activities such as planning, organizing, installing, and commissioning on-site operations.
• Overseeing the installation of traffic signals, conduits, raceways, steel structures, cabling, LED traffic signals, hardware, road loops, video detection systems, communications, pre-emption systems, and adhering to NEMA Traffic Controls standard TS2 Type 1.
• Assisting with the installation and repair of streetlights.
• Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance activities in compliance with contractual obligations.
• Supporting other related duties as necessary, including scheduling, logistics, and quality performance monitoring.
• Demonstrating the ability to work independently on traffic signals and street lighting when required and being available for on-call duties.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Journeyman Construction Electrician certification.
• Minimum of five years of experience in the traffic signal field, specifically in construction and maintenance as an electrical team leader.
• Direct involvement in the construction of traffic signal intersections in Canada.
• IMSA Certification Level 2 or higher.
• Experience with LRT signaling and power traction is advantageous.
• Master Electrician certification is a plus.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Excellent communication skills with colleagues, project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
• In-depth knowledge of NEMA TS2 Type 1 Traffic Controllers, including brands like Econolite and Tacel.
• Proficient in the installation and maintenance of traffic signals, road loops, loop detection, video detection, infrared detection, accessible pedestrian signals, and emergency pre-emption systems.
• Capable of effectively leading teams to safely complete assigned projects while managing multiple tasks on time and within budget.
• Experience working with aerial equipment and operating at heights of 3-15 meters in compliance with safety standards.
• Ability to adhere to company standard practices for field assignments.
• Valid Alberta Driver's License with Q endorsement; Class 3 is an asset.
• CSTS certification.
• Valid Fall Protection Ticket.
