Job Title: Senior Financial Analyst

Definity is seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for providing valuable insights and analysis to support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial accounting, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and account reconciliations.
  • Conduct variance analysis to explain changes and identify key trends.
  • Prepare schedules and analysis to support financial statement reporting disclosures.
  • Support statutory filings, including OSFI reporting requirements for Property and Casualty Insurance companies.
  • Support the accounts payable function.
  • Support the annual budget and quarterly forecast process.
  • Support external audits by providing interim and year-end sample requests, responding to audit inquiries, and conducting process walkthroughs.
  • Work to continuously enhance current processes and reports in terms of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Support ad-hoc projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and train junior-level analysts; act as a mentor for CPA students.
Requirements:
  • Completed university degree, preferably in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.
  • CPA designation (consideration given where designation is imminent).
  • 3-5 years of relevant finance experience.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong MS Excel and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Self-starter who can identify opportunities for improvement and execute on them.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet firm deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze and understand the implications of business activities on the financial statements.
  • Prior experience in financial services industries in general, and insurance specifically, would be an asset.

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions, and the local labour market. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in various incentive plans which are paid out at the discretion of the company and subject to individual and company performance.
