Job Summary:

The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Junior Project Officer in the Department of Infrastructure. As a key member of the project team, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of projects within the assigned budgetary authority.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and buildings, works, and equipment required for the Government of the Northwest Territories to deliver its programs and services.
  • Perform engineering and related project delivery tasks for major capital and Operational and Maintenance (O&M) projects involving highway bridges, culverts, and other transportation structures.
  • Assist the project team in undertaking projects that ensure structures are evaluated, maintained, rehabilitated, and reconstructed to withstand the demands of increasing traffic loads while meeting environmental regulations.
  • Develop and control budgets for capital projects, including estimating and financial skills.
  • Negotiate with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to manage projects effectively.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of project management, structural engineering analysis and design procedures, and design and construction management of heavy civil works and structural projects.
  • Negotiating skills and project management skills to manage projects and deal with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.

The Junior Project Officer will work in a fast-paced environment with a team of professionals to deliver projects that meet the needs of the Government of the Northwest Territories. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
