Overview
Mackenzie Health is seeking a part-time physician specializing in palliative care, who will report to the Division Head of Complex Continuing Care and Palliative Care, as well as the Chief of the Department of Family Practice. The Palliative Care Physician will collaborate with the Division of Complex Continuing Care to fulfill all professional responsibilities in the realm of Complex Continuing Care, which encompasses the treatment of patients requiring rehabilitation, complex continuing care, and palliative care services.
The selected physician will need to complete a comprehensive credentialing application and obtain approval from the Medical Advisory Committee and the Board of Directors. The official appointment will be contingent upon the Board of Directors' endorsement. Credentialing will adhere to the stipulations outlined in the Hospital By-laws.
Responsibilities
The Physician is expected to exhibit the following competencies:
- Timely and accurate diagnosis utilizing appropriate resources.
- A strong commitment to delivering expert palliative care in hospital settings, outpatient clinics, and community environments, particularly in the Vaughan area, with a willingness to provide care in local inpatient hospice facilities.
- Participation in call coverage for complex continuing care, rehabilitation, and palliative care across multiple hospital sites, as well as community palliative care in established groups.
- Provision of acute inpatient palliative care and consultative services, alongside family practice consultations.
- Delivery of palliative care in Outpatient Oncology Clinics as part of a defined roster, and assisting in the development of outpatient clinics for patients with palliative care needs beyond cancer diagnoses, in collaboration with the Chief of the Department of Medicine.
- Adherence to professional staff by-laws and regulations, as well as compliance with the Public Hospital Act and other relevant legislation.
- Compliance with scheduling frameworks established by the Chief or their designate to ensure 24/7 coverage of hospital and community palliative care services.
- Availability for consultations with professional colleagues and attendance at staff and departmental meetings within the hospital.
- Execution of duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Division Head of Complex Continuing Care and Palliative Care or the Chief of Family Practice.
- A commitment to understanding, complying with, and promoting patient safety responsibilities and related program plans, policies, and procedures to ensure a secure environment for patients.

Education – Certification – Licenses
- A medical degree recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) is required.
- CCFP designation is preferred, ideally with a focus on Palliative Care; training in Hospital and Palliative Care is essential.
- Membership in the Canadian Medical Protection Association in good standing.
- Membership in the Ontario Medical Association (OMA).
