The Earth Sciences and Engineering division specializes in site planning, spatial information, digital terrain modeling, surface and subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, underground structures, geotechnical laboratory services, flood forecasting, and water resource management through our expertise in geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and civil site development.

The Hatch Earth Sciences and Engineering (ESE) group is looking for a highly motivated Intermediate Hydrotechnical Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in executing and ensuring technical excellence across a range of challenging projects. A strong technical foundation in Civil Engineering Hydrology and Hydraulics, along with exceptional writing and interpersonal skills, is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in studies and projects primarily focused on water resources and management related to river engineering, dams, and hydropower development, with opportunities to engage in infrastructure and industrial sectors.

• Conduct hydrotechnical engineering analyses and designs in collaboration with Civil and Geotechnical Engineers, including design event estimation, river flow regime studies, dam designs, and hydraulic structure designs for water conveyance, as well as energy dissipation and erosion protection.

• Contribute to the preparation of comprehensive technical reports, drawings, specifications, and correspondence.

• Support due diligence assignments related to hydropower project financing and acquisitions.

• Foster client relationships and business development, including writing proposals.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

• Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering with a focus on Water Resources and/or Civil Engineering Hydrology and Hydraulics.

• Over 10 years of post-graduation experience in Hydrotechnical Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years in a multidisciplinary environment in Canada.

• Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.

• Experience in various Civil Engineering Hydrology and Hydraulics applications, including flood risk analysis, hydropower development, water management planning, and dam safety and rehabilitation. Familiarity with basic engineering and project layout development is advantageous.

• Proficient in specialized hydrologic modeling tools (e.g., HEC-HMS) and open-channel hydraulics modeling (e.g., HEC-RAS), including GIS applications to support engineering studies or designs. Experience in 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics in Civil Engineering Hydraulics is a plus.

• Conducted dam safety analyses and reviews in accordance with the Canadian Dam Association Dam Safety Guidelines.

• Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills and an understanding of multidisciplinary projects.

• Client-focused; a history of successful business development is a plus.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

Preferred:

• Previous experience in consulting engineering.

• Postgraduate education (M.Sc., M.Eng. or equivalent).

• Multilingual capabilities, particularly in Spanish and French.
