Job Title: Municipal Approvals Engineer

Join the Government of Alberta as a Municipal Approvals Engineer and play a crucial role in ensuring the environmental sustainability of municipal water and wastewater systems.

About the Role

This is a full-time permanent position that requires a strong understanding of environmental regulations and engineering principles. As a Municipal Approvals Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating municipal discharges and disposal of wastewater and solid waste generated from communities.

You will work closely with various internal, municipal, and public stakeholders to provide information and advice to facilitate the discussion and resolution of environmental issues. Your knowledge of physical, chemical, and biological processes will be critical to your success in this position.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Review and evaluate municipal discharges and disposal of wastewater and solid waste generated from communities.
  2. Provide information and advice to facilitate the discussion and resolution of environmental issues.
  3. Work with various internal, municipal, and public stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  4. Develop and implement strategies to improve the environmental sustainability of municipal water and wastewater systems.
  5. Collaborate with engineering consultants and municipal officials to clarify requirements and provide advice.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A university degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • 5 years of directly related experience, including water and wastewater treatment plant unit processes, quality assurance/control, and relevant legislation, standards, and guidelines.
  • Eligibility for membership with APEGA as a Professional Engineer.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, broad knowledge of water, wastewater, air, groundwater, and soil quality issues, and experience interpreting technical information/concepts.
