About Us:

Wayfair operates the largest custom e-commerce large parcel network in the United States, encompassing approximately 1.6 million square meters of logistics space. The nature of this network is inherently a highly variable ecosystem that necessitates flexible, reliable, and resilient systems to function efficiently.

We are in search of a dedicated Platform Engineer to join the Service Lifecycle team at Wayfair. This team is accountable for all aspects necessary to effectively manage a service or application in production at Wayfair. Within the service lifecycle team, we oversee the compute infrastructure that supports all of Wayfair's operations, service-to-service communication via our service mesh, and Wayfair's network edge, which includes our CDN. As a member of our team, you will tackle intricate challenges that directly influence the production infrastructure powering all of Wayfair's business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a team of highly skilled platform engineers to maintain and scale the current and future state services platform at Wayfair.
  • Assist in architecting and developing the future state compute platform by utilizing industry best practices and embracing new technologies to support Wayfair's growth.
  • Influence the product roadmaps of GCP (our primary cloud provider) to align with Wayfair's future architecture.
  • Work in partnership with business and technical stakeholders to design and enhance the compute platform capabilities that empower them to develop and iterate applications for Wayfair's business.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and improvements to eliminate repetitive operational tasks (DRY).
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to ensure operational excellence and overall platform health.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • 5+ years of experience in platform engineering/SRE roles using an object-oriented programming language (Python, Golang, etc.).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Pulumi, etc.).
  • Experience working within a Public Cloud environment (GCP, AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Extensive experience with Kubernetes in a public cloud setting (GKE, EKS, AKS, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Argo, Buildkite, TravisCI, Jenkins, Spinnaker, etc.
  • Experience with platform observability tools (Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana, Fluentbit, Cloud Monitoring, Google Cloud Logging, Datadog, Pagerduty, Cloudwatch, Kibana, Elastic Search, Splunk, VictorOps, etc.).
  • A strong desire to work in an agile environment.
  • An analytical mindset and a passion for leveraging technology to solve business challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with Istio/Service Mesh.
  • Knowledge of Dev Testing tools and methodologies such as Garden, Flagger, Canary Deployments, Blue/Green Testing, A/B Testing.
  • Experience with Kubernetes Admission Control (Kyverno, OPA, etc.).
  • Understanding of workload scaling (HPA, VPA, Capacity Planning/Reservations, etc.).
