In the role of Global Supply Chain Manager, you will be an integral part of the High-Speed Photonics Operations team. This position encompasses crucial internal collaboration with R&D and product engineering teams, as well as external engagement with our supplier network. Your expertise will be vital in transitioning from product concept to mass production. The ideal candidate will possess a strong capability to translate R&D program needs into a 'Production ready' operational framework, ensuring comprehensive product lifecycle management from inception to ongoing production. The responsibilities include:
NPI Program Operations Liaison- Collaborate closely with R&D to ensure effective engagement with both existing and new suppliers to support Ciena's objectives. Key tasks include:
- Serve as the primary contact between R&D and new suppliers to facilitate product development programs. This involves defining project deliverables, negotiating development agreements, and conducting regular discussions on technical and commercial matters.
- Ensure that R&D's requirements for prototypes are met by suppliers, necessitating strong collaboration to address early supply and technical needs efficiently.
- Communicate product goals to suppliers, driving them to meet expectations regarding cost, output, capacity, quality, and reporting.
- Manage a diverse supplier landscape, including OEM suppliers, foundries, and EMS partners.
- Establish a robust supply chain and partner selection process, ensuring operational considerations are prioritized in decision-making. Key factors include cost, BOM changes, product yield, testing methods, factory capacity, and supplier qualification.
- Define and communicate requirements for pilot runs and conduct regular reviews to ensure successful execution.
- Facilitate weekly meetings with key suppliers to monitor product performance against KPIs such as cost, yield, output, quality, and supply assurance.
- Address yield and quality challenges promptly by collaborating with the Product Engineering team or R&D as necessary.
- Translate complex technical issues into understandable terms for senior management, focusing on cost and schedule impacts.
- Manage a portfolio of critical commodities and suppliers, focusing on:
- Negotiating pricing and contracts to achieve Ciena's cost objectives.
- Identifying second sourcing opportunities for key components in collaboration with product engineering.
- Analyzing global supplier spend to maintain a balanced supply chain.
- Establishing operational rhythms and KPIs with vendors to ensure optimal performance.
- Acting as Ciena's representative to communicate performance expectations to suppliers and establish efficient problem-solving pathways.
- Conducting complex RFQs for advanced technologies while clearly articulating requirements and timelines.
- Providing data-driven recommendations for supplier selection based on cost analysis and other critical factors.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the high-tech sector, particularly telecommunications.
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, with a preference for a master's in business administration.
- Strong collaborative and communication skills, both technical and commercial.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Power BI.
