Nighttime EHS Specialist for Tunneling Operations

What is the Opportunity?
Aecon Nuclear is engaged in a significant partnership with Ontario Power Generation, focusing on the development of Canada's inaugural Small Modular Reactor as part of the SMR-X Project. Our involvement encompasses various phases including validation, design, procurement, and site preparation for the construction of Unit 1 at the Darlington location.
In this role, reporting to the BOP CCW EHS Manager, the Night EHS Advisor plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of health and safety across all organizational levels, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and promoting safe work practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and oversee project-specific safety and environmental management plans for tunneling operations, including conducting inspections, audits, and providing coaching.
- Educate project personnel on the essential safety protocols related to tunneling.
- Monitor and report on safety metrics, manage Return to Work and Modified duties cases at the operational level.
- Fulfill additional requirements as specified in the Project Specific EHS and related programs.
- Contribute to Human Performance program initiatives.
- Aid in the creation of Job Hazard Analyses, High Hazard assessments, and Critical Lifting and Handling documentation, ensuring compliance through field audits.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications such as CHSO, CRSP, or NSCO.
- At least 5 years of experience in Health and Safety within the tunneling sector.
- Comprehensive knowledge of tunneling and shaft safety regulations.
- Familiarity with Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) operations.
- Appropriate post-secondary education or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety domain.
- Strong team player with the ability to adapt to frequent changes.
- Proven leadership skills with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Capability to oversee subcontractor safety performance.
- Understanding of Emergency Planning and Hot Work Procedures.
- Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds and climb ladders as necessary.
- Willingness to work in diverse locations and job sites.
- Ability to work independently and proactively.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility to adjust work schedules as needed to meet project deadlines.
