We are currently seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Technologist to join our Business Development Geosciences Team. Reporting to the Team Lead, Business Development Geosciences, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing data for Geoscience projects at Strathcona Resources. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on challenges and enjoys collaborating with diverse teams across our organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and update project workflows.
  • Administer and support GIS and Geoscience projects utilizing a range of software including Geographix, ArcGIS, QGIS, geoSCOUT, Petrel, Petro Ninja, and EVA. This includes tasks such as georeferencing images, digitizing contour maps, manipulating shapefiles, and extracting metadata.
  • Establish a centralized repository for current datasets, ensuring easy accessibility for other business units.
  • Clean project data and enhance integration across various applications.
  • Contribute your expertise to ongoing data management and data science initiatives.
  • Collaborate with asset team Geotechs to leverage vendor data and our own internal data effectively within their workflows.
  • Analyze existing workflows to identify opportunities for increased efficiency through automation.
  • Highlight the capabilities of our data analytics team and demonstrate how their work can be optimally utilized by the Business Development team.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a technical role, ideally with a diploma or equivalent.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the oil & gas industry, encompassing resource development, drilling & completions, machine learning techniques, databases, and associated structures.
  • Knowledge of geology, mapping, cross sections, and Python is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated skills as a team player, with experience in developing and delivering presentations. Excellent communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, maintain professionalism, be self-motivated, learn rapidly, adjust pace to meet both detailed work requirements and practical deadlines. Strong problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and the ability to prioritize business needs are crucial.
  • Proficiency in software applications such as MS Office, geoSCOUT, Petrel, Geographix, Surfer, ArcGIS, QGIS, EVA, Spotfire, and Tableau.
