Job Title: Materials Technician/Technologist

GEMTEC Consulting Engineers & Scientists Limited is seeking a skilled Materials Technician/Technologist to join our team in Petawawa, Ontario.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Materials Technician/Technologist to perform laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, soils, and aggregates. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and test samples of construction materials to determine their properties and quality.
  • Perform compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete.
  • Test fresh concrete, grout, and mortar, and cast laboratory specimens.
  • Conduct site inspections and document findings, providing detailed reports on test results.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed field reports for project managers and engineers.
  • Maintain effective communication with project teams and ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the project team to troubleshoot and resolve materials-related issues.
Requirements:
  • Diploma or degree in Geotechnical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in materials testing and inspection is preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.
  • OACETT is an asset.
Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with varying weather conditions, and may be required to walk and engage in fieldwork for extended periods. The ability to transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is also required.
