Job Title: Materials Technician/Technologist

GEMTEC Consulting Engineers & Scientists Limited is seeking a skilled Materials Technician/Technologist to join our team in Petawawa, Ontario.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Materials Technician/Technologist to perform laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, soils, and aggregates. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect samples and perform laboratory and field testing of construction materials to determine material properties and quality.
  • Conduct compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete.
  • Test fresh concrete/grout/mortar and cast laboratory specimens.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments of construction sites, document findings, and provide detailed reports on test results.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate field reports for use by project managers and engineers.
  • Maintain effective communication with project teams and provide regular updates on field activities and findings.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Maintain and calibrate testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate with the project team to troubleshoot and resolve materials-related issues.
  • Ability to work under varied weather conditions and walk and engage in fieldwork for extended periods.
Requirements:
  • Diploma or degree in Geotechnical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in materials testing and inspection is preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.
  • OACETT is an asset.
