Chief Financial Officer

Venor is proud to partner with Nova Construction in their search for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join their team. Based in Nova Scotia, Nova Construction is a driving force in the road building industry, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality projects across the region.
Key Responsibilities:- Financial Reporting – Directly involved in the preparation, review, and presentation of financial statements in accordance with regulatory requirements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Ensure all financial statements are accurate, timely, and compliant with relevant laws and regulations governing financial reporting.
- Financial Planning and Analysis – Responsible for developing financial strategies, forecasts, and budgets to guide the company's operations. This includes analyzing financial data to provide actionable insights for decision-making and long-term planning.
- Tax Planning, Compliance, and Preparation – Oversee and actively participate in the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to tax laws and regulations in all jurisdictions. Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while maintaining full compliance.
- Risk Management – Identify and assess financial risks facing the company, such as market, credit, and operational risks. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate these risks, safeguarding the company's financial health.
- Treasury Management – Manage the company's cash flow and liquidity, ensuring adequate funds are available for operating expenses and capital expenditures.
- Strategic Planning – Collaborate with other senior leaders to develop and execute the company's strategic initiatives, expansion plans, and investment opportunities. Align financial goals with overall business objectives.
- Corporate Governance – Ensure compliance with corporate governance principles and best practices, including oversight of internal controls, risk management processes, and ethical standards. Maintain transparency and accountability in all financial practices.
- Leadership and Team Development – Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Develop and mentor talent to support the company's financial objectives and ensure a high-performing finance function.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or related roles, with at least 5-7 years in senior management and leadership positions.
- Extensive experience in financial reporting, analysis, and understanding of GAAP and regulatory compliance.
- Proven track record in entrepreneurial or high-growth companies.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with other senior leaders.
- Experience in the construction industry and large projects is considered an asset.
- CPA designation and/or MBA preferred.
