University Campus Journalist

Position Overview: Creative Manitoba is in search of a dedicated University of Winnipeg student or alumnus with a flair for writing and a keen interest in campus affairs, news, and events to take on the role of Campus Journalist.
Key Qualifications: The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional research and interviewing abilities, along with a discerning perspective on newsworthy content.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the city editor
- Propose and compose two 500-word articles related to campus topics each week
- Coordinate with the visual team to secure appropriate visual elements
- Manage time effectively to meet deadlines
- Participate in weekly brainstorming sessions, monthly departmental meetings, and professional growth workshops
- Develop and write a feature article once per semester
- Adhere to all applicable policies and guidelines, including the Canadian Press style, the Canadian Association of Journalists ethics standards, the Uniter style guide, and editorial policies
Team Dynamics:
- Reports directly to the city editor
- Works in conjunction with the managing editor, copy & style editor, illustrator, and photography team
- Candidates should maintain a flexible schedule and be available for brainstorming sessions throughout the academic year.
Work Commitment: This role is anticipated to require approximately 10 hours per week, with a compensation of $170 per week. The Campus Journalist will commence their term at the beginning of the academic year.
