Job Title: Legal Counsel

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in labour and employment law, as well as experience in contract development, policy development, and dispute resolution. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive legal services to the University, including labour and employment law, contract development, and policy development.
  • Develop and implement effective legal strategies to support the University's goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior administrators, faculty, and staff to provide expert legal advice and guidance.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform legal decisions and recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and other educational institutions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Laws degree from a reputable Canadian university (or equivalent).
  • A practicing member of or eligible to be a practicing member of the Law Society of Manitoba.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in the practice of law, with a strong background in labour and employment law.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to conduct complex legal research and analysis.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a dynamic team.
