About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Fleet Services Division in the Department of Public Works. As a key member of our team, you will provide leadership and expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of various programs, policies, and standards that support safe vehicle fitness and operations on the public highway system of the Province.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build the provincial snow plow fleet, ensuring high-quality standards and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Supervise a dedicated team of mechanics, welders, and engineer support professionals to construct and maintain equipment.
  • Identify vehicle and equipment safety issues, develop recommendations for action, and oversee the Capital Fleet Program.
  • Address the use of after-market and add-on vehicle equipment, respond to industry and public inquiries, and participate in committees regarding vehicle and equipment safety standards.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure departmental objectives are achieved.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of related experience in designing and detailing of mechanical projects.
  • Active registration as a Full Member (P. Eng) with Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS).
  • A valid driver's license in good standing and ability to travel throughout the province.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of automotive engineering principles and standards, as well as vehicle and equipment standards and vehicle dynamics analysis.
