About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Health Care Social Worker to join our team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide a diverse range of interventions to clients and their families, enabling them to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychosocial assessments, adjustment therapy, supportive therapy, crisis counselling, resource counselling, and discharge planning and case management.
  • Advocate, educate, and collaborate with individuals and groups within the institution and community.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students in work placements.
  • Provide consultation based on an advanced level of education (MSW) and integrated knowledge of social, structural, emotional, psychological, and cultural factors that affect well-being.
About You

We are looking for a candidate with a Master of Social Work degree from a recognized university, registration and membership in the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers and Canadian Association of Social Workers, and two years of clinical experience as a Social Worker.

  • Knowledge of human behaviour, including systems theory, family dynamics, group dynamics, and theories of behaviour change.
  • Experience in oncology, grief and loss, advance care planning, end of life, disability, crisis intervention, caregiving, and an in-depth understanding of the continuum of care.
  • Leap palliative care training preferred.
  • Proven self-directed leadership and advanced leadership training in working with people with developmental disabilities.
  • Competencies in other languages preferred, French an asset.
Hours and Compensation

This is a long assignment full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly, approximately 18 months, and a hybrid work arrangement with some travel to Yarmouth Regional Hospital as required.

The hourly rate is $37.31 - $49.05, and successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
