About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Planning Services Manager to join our team at the City of Coquitlam. As a key member of our Planning and Development Department, you will play a critical role in overseeing the development review process, leading front-end teams, and ensuring a smooth and organized application intake and review process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development review process, identifying and resolving issues involving specific development applications
  • Oversee the administration and management of the Zoning Bylaw, ensuring compliance with provincial guidelines
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance on emerging challenges, working closely with senior planners and internal stakeholders
  • Develop and implement process improvements, exercising impeccable independent judgment in resolving matters with applicants
  • Collaborate with the Planning and Development management team to provide input into development negotiations and confidential reports to Council
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Urban Planning, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience managing complex case files in a professional environment, including experience managing budgets and supervising staff
  • Previous leadership experience and/or experience within a municipal setting is desired
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate, influence, and liaise effectively with colleagues, contractors, consultants, community groups, and external agencies
  • Advanced research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with an ability to interpret and act on emerging issues
