Museum Operations Coordinator

Salary: $17.00 to $20.00 /hr (based on experience)

This is a full-time seasonal role (18 weeks - 40 hrs/week) with occasional weekend commitments.

About the Museum: Established in 1970, the museum showcases over 11,000 artifacts that reflect the Victorian Era of local history. The main structure, built in 1888, features unique architectural elements, including turrets, and has undergone several expansions over the years.

The museum is governed by a dedicated group of volunteer Board members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the recruitment, leadership, training, and evaluation of staff members.
  • Coordinate daily museum operations and provide reports to the Museum Board.
  • Ensure the preservation and presentation of local history through high-quality interpretive experiences for visitors.
  • Manage the administration and upkeep of the museum's website and social media platforms, along with marketing initiatives during fundraising events.
  • Organize and promote special events.
  • Engage educational institutions to facilitate school tours.
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of collections and displays, including general housekeeping duties as necessary.
  • Supervise summer staff, create work schedules, and submit payroll information to the Treasurer.

Qualifications:

  • Educational background in Arts, Science, History, Museum Studies, Tourism & Hospitality, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Business, or a related field, along with relevant work experience in a museum or interpretive center.
  • Knowledge of public relations and customer service is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications is required.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and timelines effectively.
  • Experience in event planning, marketing, and public relations is advantageous, or a willingness to learn.
  • Project management, supervisory, and fundraising experience would be beneficial.
  • Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated individuals are encouraged to apply.
