Position: Buyer – General Merchandise

This role will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Merchandising.

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for considering various factors when making purchasing decisions, including:
  • Customer demand, encompassing price, quality, and availability
  • Market trends
  • Store policies
  • Financial budgets
Staying informed about market trends and adapting to shifts in demand are crucial components of this role. Buyers are tasked with sourcing new products and evaluating existing items to ensure competitiveness. By thoroughly understanding customer needs, they can maximize profits and offer a commercially viable assortment of merchandise at competitive prices.

Key Responsibilities:

The Buyer’s role encompasses all facets of the purchasing cycle, including product selection, inventory management, advertising, training, and other functions aimed at enhancing sales and revenue. Responsibilities include:
  • Traveling across Canada, the United States, Europe, or Asia for business as necessary.
  • Attending local and international trade shows to curate a new collection of products and stay updated on industry standards.
  • Engaging with vendors to negotiate contracts and promotions.
  • Maintaining relationships with current vendors and identifying new sources for future products.
  • Enhancing profit opportunities through rebates, cash discounts, and promotional allowances.
  • Reviewing and analyzing performance indicators, such as sales and discount levels.
  • Being aware of relevant product trends and their potential impact on the company.
  • Tracking and analyzing consumer buying patterns to determine optimal product offerings.
  • Maintaining vendor lists, company reports, performance assessments, inventory turnover, gross margins, and return on investments.
  • Testing sample products and reporting results.
  • Overseeing the management of minimal defective returns.
  • Reviewing product records and correcting errors as they arise.
  • Ensuring stock levels meet store inventory requirements and promotions by collaborating with store personnel.
  • Coordinating with other departments to ensure project completion.

Starting pay will align with the indicated salary range and may vary based on relevant experience, knowledge, and education.
