Community Support Specialist

Empowering Lives Through Support
Traverse Independence provides a diverse range of assistance and services for individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABI) to thrive independently within their communities. A key component of our offerings is our outreach initiative. In the role of an outreach specialist, you will engage in a low-barrier program, fostering trusted connections with clients, which will enable you to aid them in enhancing their independence in the community. This impactful program significantly transforms the lives of our clients, and in collaboration with them, you will find immense fulfillment as they reach their objectives, elevate their quality of life, and navigate their daily challenges.
Reporting to an Outreach Coordinator, you will be part of a dedicated team that includes licensed professionals such as ABI-focused psychiatrists, an Occupational Therapist, a Behaviour Therapist, and an Intensive Case Coordinator. Your role will involve providing assistance to individuals in their residences or in community environments throughout the Region of Waterloo and the County of Wellington.
While prior experience with ABI is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite, as we offer a thorough training program both internally and through the Ontario Brain Injury Association. This position presents a valuable opportunity to gain specialization in ABI. Experience in the mental health and/or addiction sectors will also be beneficial, as many individuals with ABI may concurrently face mental health or substance use challenges.
We provide a comprehensive benefits package, paid training, and reimbursement for travel expenses. Full-time positions are available within our community outreach programs, and your working hours can be flexible, allowing you to coordinate appointments directly with clients.
If you are interested in exploring this opportunity, please visit our website to discover job openings and learn more about our organization.
All candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle, along with proof of $1,000,000 liability insurance and an acceptable driver's abstract, as this role requires regular travel to meet clients in the community.
Traverse Independence is dedicated to fostering an accessible and inclusive workplace that offers employment opportunities in alignment with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
Please reach out to our Human Resources Department if you require any accommodations to fully engage in the recruitment and selection process.
