Job Summary

The Home Care Attendant (HCA) plays a vital role in the Home Care team at Southern Health-Santé Sud, providing essential personal care and home support services to clients in their own homes. As a key member of the team, the HCA is responsible for delivering high-quality care and support to individuals with diverse needs, promoting their independence and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care services, including bathing, dressing, and grooming, to clients in their homes.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities, such as meal preparation, medication management, and household tasks.
  • Support clients with mobility and transfer needs, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, their families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborate with the Home Care team to ensure seamless care coordination and communication.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in both official languages (English/French) is essential.
  • Grade 12 education is required.
  • Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate with a community component from a recognized post-secondary institution is required.
  • Knowledge of Safe Food Handling is essential.
  • Previous experience working with the elderly or disabled in a community setting is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a home care program is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality.
  • Good work and attendance record.

Conditions of Employment

  • A valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00 are required.
