Lead Game Systems Engineer

About the Role
Epic Games is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Designer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the design and implementation of game systems that will captivate, engage, and retain players.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and prototype complex game systems that support core gameplay mechanics and creative vision, iterating through multiple iterations.
- Collaborate closely with team leads to develop and validate a thoughtful 'meta-game' experience.
- Work with production teams and team leads to identify and prioritize essential tasks for creating these systems.
- Oversee the design and implementation of these systems to high standards.
- Generate documentation and utilize spreadsheets and org charts to model game systems and consider how different types of players will interact with them.
- Refine player experience through gameplay testing and iteration, as well as game balance and rebalancing, continually seeking ways to improve or expand the gaming experience.
Requirements
- More than 7 years of experience delivering AAA titles as a game designer.
- More than 2 years in a systems design lead role, as well as experience managing and directing a team.
- Excellent knowledge of development tools, game engines (preferably Unreal Engine 4 or 5), and related processes.
- Solid understanding of game design principles, including fundamental experience, player retention, progression, player motivations, and balance.
- Ability to assume responsibilities and communicate initiatives to ensure their timely realization and alignment with design vision.
