The WLIC Chemistry Lab Technical Support member is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the WLIC chemistry labs, aligning with the lab support practices of the WLU chemistry courses. This position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare solutions and materials for each laboratory exercise, adhering to Laboratory Safety Guidelines and material SDSs.
- Conduct setup and takedown of stations for each lab exercise, ensuring proper storage and disposal of chemicals and solutions.
- Assist in the design and preparation of lab content to support CH110/CH111 labs, working closely with the Lab Coordinator and Course Instructor.
- Identify and report any issues or deficiencies to the Lab Coordinator, ensuring laboratory safety and compliance with regulations.
- Prepare hazardous waste for disposal according to SHERM practices, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Ensure the teaching lab and PREP room are cleaned and organized after each lab, maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
- Minimum MSc degree in Chemistry or related field, with a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
- Well-developed organizational skills, with the ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, with a high level of autonomy and self-motivation.
- Experience with standard chemistry laboratory equipment, handling chemicals, and preparation of chemical solutions.
The normal hours of work are 8 hours (biweekly) from Monday to Friday, with flexibility required to accommodate lab sessions. The incumbent will be required to work evening hours to support lab operations.
CompensationThe hiring salary range is $41.09 to $43.44, with an annual step progression up to $46.96. Considerations for new hire step placements include qualifications, length/depth of required experience, relevant market rates, internal equity, and estimated learning curve.
