About the RoleThe Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre (MATC) is a key site within Shared Health, specializing in mental health services for children and youth. MATC offers a comprehensive range of mental health services to support children and youth facing emotional and psychological challenges, along with their families. The Youth Forensic Services division specifically focuses on delivering clinical services, including assessments and treatments for youth engaged with the criminal justice system, whether in custody or within the community.
As a Clinical Child Psychologist, you will report to the Director of Psychology at MATC and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Your primary responsibilities will include providing services to youth involved in the criminal justice system, which encompasses court-ordered assessments related to psycho-diagnostic issues, as well as treatment services. Your client base will include individuals in both custodial settings and community environments. Additional responsibilities may involve conducting psychological assessments and treatment for children and youth facing various mental health and emotional challenges, offering consultation to service areas regarding at-risk youth, and providing supervision to students and staff as appropriate.
Compensation and BenefitsMATC Psychologists are appointed to the Medical Staff through Shared Health's Clinical Health Psychology specialty. The position offers a competitive salary, supplemented by an annual forensic specialist top-up, an attractive benefits package, relocation assistance, clinical supervision until independent practice licensure is achieved, reimbursement for professional license fees, and ongoing opportunities for professional development.
Qualifications- Education, training, and clinical experience in diagnostic evaluation and cognitive assessment of children and youth, including the administration and interpretation of standardized psychological tests.
- Expertise in evidence-based psychological treatment for children and youth with diverse emotional and mental health challenges.
- Experience in forensic settings, including conducting formal risk assessments, is preferred.
- Familiarity with diverse cultural backgrounds is advantageous.
- Experience working with individuals who have encountered significant trauma is beneficial.
- Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA-accredited program.
- Successful completion of a CPA or APA accredited internship/residency in Clinical Psychology.
- Completion of clinical forensic psychology training, particularly at the residency or postdoctoral level, is an asset.
- Registered (or eligible for registration) for full independent practice as a C. Psych. by the Psychological Association of Manitoba. Supervision will be provided for individuals at the C.Psych. Candidate level until fully registered.
- Strong interpersonal and inter-professional teamwork abilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to efficiently manage time-sensitive court-ordered assessments.
- Position is subject to security clearance requirements for Manitoba Justice, with responsibility for any service charges incurred.
