Youth and Family Support Counsellor

Accoravillage is a community-focused organization dedicated to enhancing mental health and well-being. Our goal is to foster an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and experiences.

The Lighthouse Program offers a specialized, community-based live-in service for youth aged 12 to 17 facing complex challenges. These young individuals often exhibit high-risk behaviors due to prolonged exposure to traumatic experiences and may require tailored support beyond conventional placements.

Position Overview
As a Youth and Family Support Counsellor, you will be the primary caregiver for children and families, working on a rotating shift basis to ensure continuous support. You will play a vital role in delivering exceptional services while adhering to the organization's Health and Safety Management System.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide therapeutic support and case management for children and families, including participation in case conferences and intervention strategies.
  • Establish and maintain a structured environment that promotes personal and social development for each client.
  • Assist with educational placements and daily programming to enhance community integration.
  • Manage various operational tasks, including meal preparation, cleanliness, and transportation needs.
  • Ensure the living space meets the standards set by the Licensing Department.
  • Engage actively in team meetings, training sessions, and planning activities.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Social Sciences, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or Nursing.
  • Professional registration may be required for specific qualifications.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Preferred certification and training in crisis intervention and behavior management.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to personal transportation.
