Job Title: Staff Solicitor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Solicitor to join our team at Accoravillage. As a Staff Solicitor, you will be responsible for providing legal counsel and representation in family and child protection law matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice and representation to clients in family and child protection law matters
  • Conduct legal research and prepare required documents
  • Supervise and direct staff in the provision of legal services
  • Collaborate with community advocates to develop legal services and programs
  • Build relationships with local community, including Indigenous community, to raise awareness of Accoravillage and services
Requirements:
  • Law degree from a recognized standing and membership or eligibility for membership in the Law Society of British Columbia
  • Experience in general practice with an emphasis on family and child protection law
  • Experience at Provincial and Supreme Court levels involving the full range of family law and child protection issues
  • Valid BC driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of family and child protection law and practice
  • Experience screening for family violence, doing risk assessments, and safety planning
  • Understanding of issues affecting Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous cultures and justice concepts
  • Knowledge of administrative principles, practices, techniques, policies, and legislative development relevant to Indigenous programs, services, and activities
