Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Planning Specialist to join our team at Hydro One Networks Inc. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of environmental planning and assessment, as well as excellent communication and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental Planning and Assessment
    • Develop and implement environmental plans and assessments for infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
    • Conduct site visits and monitor environmental aspects of projects, identifying potential risks and opportunities for improvement.
    • Prepare and review Environmental Due Diligence Reports, Environmental Protection Plans/Requirements Documents, and permitting and monitoring in support of new electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Project Management
    • Lead all aspects of archaeological assessments and Environmental Assessments (EAs) for infrastructure projects, including project notices, engagement planning, and execution.
    • Manage environmental consultants, track project progress, and ensure timely completion of environmental studies and reports.
    • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, interest groups, and members of the public to ensure effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contract Management
    • Tender and monitor environmental consultant contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Review and approve environmental consultant reports and recommendations, ensuring alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
    • Develop and implement effective communication plans to engage stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, regulatory agencies, and the public.
    • Prepare and present technical and organizational information to internal and external groups, including project updates, environmental reports, and stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Knowledge and Experience
    • Four-year university degree in archaeology, environmental studies, planning, natural sciences, or a related field.
    • Over six years (minimum) or more of relevant work experience in environmental planning and assessment, including experience with archaeological assessments and EAs.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of effectively contributing to all stages of archaeological assessments and EAs for infrastructure projects in Ontario.
    • Strong understanding of environmental issues and legislative requirements, including the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Ontario Environmental Protection Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Ontario Water Resources Act, Endangered Species Act, Heritage Act, Ontario Public Lands Act, and municipal environmental development requirements.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, regulatory agencies, and the public.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze complex environmental data and develop effective solutions.
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision, with a high level of initiative and a strong work ethic.
