Position Summary:Under the guidance of the Engineering Director, the Lead Communications Systems Engineer will engage in major infrastructure projects across Canada. The role involves defining, executing, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations by the project team. The Lead Engineer will oversee the overall coordination of the Communications discipline, which encompasses Communications Networks, Control Centers, SCADA systems, Mobile Communications, and Public Address Systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Adhere to and promote the company's core values, operational principles, and established standards.
- Exhibit technical proficiency in Communications Engineering, including the creation of contract documentation such as design reports, analysis documents, and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with quality, environmental, and safety standards while adhering to project timelines and budget constraints.
- Analyze client requirements and evaluate documentation to guarantee that compliant solutions are developed using industry best practices.
- Complete assigned tasks in alignment with project requirements and within specified timelines and budgets.
- Collaborate and integrate design solutions with various engineering disciplines.
- Utilize design and cost-effective execution strategies to formulate optimal solutions.
- Effectively organize and prioritize tasks, setting clear priorities to meet deadlines.
- Provide relevant insights to other engineering disciplines and functions.
- Engage in hands-on design work, including the production and review of reports, analyses, specifications, and drawings.
- Mentor junior engineers and drafters.
- Independently establish and maintain requirements management, interface management, and configuration management processes.
- Oversee the management of the discipline and coordinate with other engineering teams and project management.
- Conduct Quality Control and Quality Assurance for the technical activities of the team.
- Develop processes for generating status reports, metrics, and documentation.
- Contribute valuable insights to team members and other disciplines.
- Significant experience in Communications Engineering.
- Background in LRT, Metro, or Railway design projects.
- Experience with a comprehensive systems engineering approach.
- Familiarity with lifecycle management from need identification to system retirement.
- Desirable experience in rail and transit operations and maintenance.
- Knowledge of AREMA standards, Canadian Rail Operating Rules, and CENELEC standards.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario or Quebec is preferred.
- Ability to devise innovative solutions.
- Capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to learn and apply new techniques and standards.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal; proficiency in French is an advantage.
