At Scotiabank, research is a pivotal element of our Global Equity platform. We focus on the Canadian market while also delivering targeted international research that includes the United States and Latin America. Our highly regarded teams produce value-added equity insights and themed publications. Our offerings include daily company-specific investment perspectives, monthly and quarterly sector updates, in-depth fundamental research reports, portfolio analysis and recommendations, and equity strategy commentary.

Equity Research Analysts thrive in a stimulating and challenging work environment. Analysts collaborate closely with experienced Research Analysts to develop financial forecasts and publish research documents that empower our clients to make informed investment choices.
With a flat organizational structure and a collaborative approach, Research Analysts have numerous opportunities to build relationships with both institutional and corporate clients, gain in-depth sector knowledge, enhance their financial modeling and valuation capabilities, and deepen their understanding of capital markets.
What You'll Do:
- Conduct thorough financial statement analysis and create and maintain financial models.
- Perform extensive industry analysis and research utilizing various industry and financial resources.
- Gather, consolidate, and interpret company and industry data.
- Assist in drafting research publications, including morning commentary, company and industry reports, and theme-based research documents.
- Monitor overall market news and assess market data to identify short and long-term trends.
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations for meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate and manage inquiries from institutional investors.
- Establish and maintain connections with investor relations and management of companies within the coverage group.
- Collaborate with sales, trading, and other departments within regulatory guidelines.
What You'll Bring:
- A university degree in business, economics, engineering, geology, or geophysics is preferred.
- A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, MBA, Masters of Finance degree, or enrollment in/completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program would be advantageous.
- Experience in a financial, engineering, analytical, corporate development, or M&A role within the oil & gas sector would be beneficial.
- Strong accounting, financial modeling, graphing, and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel & PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with mapping software such as GeoScout, as well as Bloomberg and FactSet, would be an asset.
- Knowledge of natural gas markets would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with VBA, Python, or other programming languages would be beneficial.
- Experience in analyzing financial statements and valuing companies.
- Capital Markets knowledge/experience.
- Good business judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work.
Work Arrangement:
This position currently requires on-site work, with the expectation of at least four days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on business needs.
