Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Maintenance Worker to join our team at the National Arts Centre. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing a range of duties within janitorial, trades, and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain washrooms, including restocking supplies and ensuring a high level of cleanliness.
  • Recycle and dispose of garbage, including operating industrial vacuums and floor scrubbers.
  • Operate walk-behind and ride-on machinery, scrubbers, and sweepers to maintain floors and surfaces.
  • Dust and mop floors, including using carpet cleaners and other equipment as needed.
  • Pick up and remove litter, including emptying trash cans and recycling bins.
  • Perform other related activities as required, including working alongside outside contractors.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year of related janitorial experience, including operating industrial vacuums, floor scrubbers, and carpet cleaners.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs on a regular basis and push/pull carts weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to follow directions and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and react quickly in emergency situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages (English/French) is an asset.
  • A past record of satisfactory attendance and punctuality is a requirement.
Working Conditions

This is a physically demanding role that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision. The successful candidate must be able to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods.
