Position Summary and Scope of Service:

The Substitute Educator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized educational programs for small groups of students within the St.Amant School, in accordance with provincial legislation and consistent with the organization's mission, philosophy, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized educational plans for students with developmental disabilities and autism
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless coordination and integration of services
  • Provide direction and supervision to Instructional Assistants to ensure individualized, developmentally appropriate services
  • Assist with planning and implementing processes to blend healthcare and educational needs of students
  • Develop linkages and communication with students' family members or advocates
  • Support others to function as effective team members and achieve consensus decisions
  • Incorporate outcome evaluation within the delivery of all services
  • Collaborate with community members and other school divisions as needed to ensure educational needs of non-resident students are met

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in education
  • Certified as a teacher by the Manitoba Department of Education and Training
  • Formal training in special education is an asset
  • Previous experience teaching students with developmental/intellectual disabilities, as a special education teacher, resource teacher, or regular classroom teacher
  • Previous experience in an interdisciplinary school environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a participatory team approach
  • Current knowledge concerning theory and practice relevant to the education of persons with developmental/intellectual disabilities
  • Knowledge of the history of education and support services for people with disabilities and current trends, philosophies, and practices concerning their care, education, and lifestyles
  • Understanding of or support for the application of interdisciplinary teamwork practices within the field of education
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in a year-round, extended-day school environment
  • Computer literate regarding special education computer software
  • Ability to work harmoniously and contribute to effective team relationships within a unionized environment
  • Flexible and able to work within modified school structures when this is of benefit to students

St.Amant is a bilingual organization. Proficiency in both official languages (French/English) would be considered an asset.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Prior Contact Check.

As a Condition of Employment, new hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks. This includes the requirement to confirm immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases. Successful applicants will also be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
