Clinical Practice Lead for Behavioral Health Consulting

Permanent Full Time 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours/week)

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Clinical Practice Lead to oversee our Behavioral Health Consultant team within the Mental Health division at Edmonton O-day'min Primary Care Network. This pivotal role involves providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development support to our mental health professionals on a daily basis.

As the Clinical Practice Lead, you will work closely with the Clinical Program Manager to enhance the skills and competencies of the Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) team. Your key responsibilities will include organizing clinical training and orientation for new hires, as well as offering ongoing coaching and support to existing staff to improve their professional practice. You will play a vital role in fostering continuous quality improvement and standardization initiatives within the program, ensuring effective communication among the Clinical Manager, BHC team, and other relevant stakeholders. This position requires collaboration with the broader clinical team and may involve occasional travel.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background as a Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Psychologist, or Social Worker, with certification in Behavioral Health Consulting and a thorough understanding of mental health and community social supports. We are looking for someone who is passionate about implementing change, adept in facilitation and education for healthcare providers, and proficient in clinical practices and technology. Success in this role hinges on the ability to cultivate effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Clinical Education and Practice Support

  • Coordinates and organizes clinical orientation for new BHC and mental health team members, including the development of clinical content and orientation schedules.
  • Conducts training on Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and documentation practices.
  • Maintains an education database for staff, ensuring compliance with continuing education and certification requirements.
  • Promotes adherence to clinical practice policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a resource for team members and the Program Manager, addressing significant issues or performance concerns as needed.
  • Provides coaching and feedback on clinical practices, adjusting learning plans as necessary.
  • Identifies learning needs and collaborates on professional development opportunities.

Program Improvement and Standards

  • Supports the development and maintenance of a competency framework.
  • Evaluates and acquires patient education materials, facilitating their use among clinical staff.
  • Ensures clinical practices are aligned with the latest literature and clinical guidelines.
  • Contributes to the development of clinical practice policies and procedures.
  • Assists clinical teams in maintaining current and relevant program resources and reference materials.
  • Prepares team members for seasonal projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Behavioral Health Consultant with relevant work experience.
  • Mental Health First Aid/Suicide Prevention training or equivalent crisis management experience.
  • Active registration in good standing with the relevant regulatory body.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.

Experience

  • Experience in primary care or community-based settings.
  • Experience in group facilitation or instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records and related technology.
  • Experience with addiction, mental health, and trauma-informed care is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Behavioral Health Consultant Model.
  • Knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing is advantageous.
  • Experience in health education and chronic disease management is beneficial.
  • Understanding of relevant health policies and strategies is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and adaptable to new technologies.
  • Criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check is required.
