The Sustainability Engineer will serve as a Qualified Person (QP) and will primarily oversee the management of excess soils, supervise the removal and disposal of contaminated soils, and manage water resources during construction phases. This role encompasses all stages of project work from approvals and pre-construction through to construction, operation, and decommissioning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide regulatory guidance and oversight for activities related to construction projects under applicable regulations, including Excess Soils, Permit to Take Water, and Records of Site Condition.
- Prepare necessary assessments and reports as a QP to comply with regulatory requirements and complete filings with the relevant environmental authorities.
- Develop drainage assessments, discharge management plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and stormwater management plans to adhere to regulatory standards.
- Manage the technical, scheduling, and budgetary aspects of QP services on various projects.
- Act as a field resource for projects when necessary.
- Conduct peer reviews of technical reports, laboratory analyses, and other supporting documentation.
Additional responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A post-secondary degree in Engineering, Geology, or a related field. Experience in pipeline, transmission line, and renewable energy construction is advantageous.
- Familiarity with provincial and federal regulations, including those governing Excess Soils, Permit to Take Water, and Records of Site Condition.
- Knowledge of managing contaminated sites and soils, along with risk assessment and remediation practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, regulatory permit applications, and client interactions.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with skills in prioritization and decision-making.
- High attention to detail.
- Capability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to cultivate strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- A valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance policy.
- Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist designation in Ontario is required.
- Qualified Person (QP) designation in Ontario.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Environmental Engineering within Ontario.
