Job Overview

The Engineer Mining will play a critical role in creating Preliminary Feasibility Studies (PFS) for the company's underground mine operations. This position will support long-term mine plans, five-year and one-year plans for BDM's underground operations. The successful candidate will become a valued member of the Mine Planning team and serve as the primary contact for developing PFS for the company's underground mine operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement PFS for underground mine projects
  • Support the development of life of mine, long-range, five-year, and one-year mine plans
  • Collaborate with third-party technical consultants and contractors
  • Facilitate weekly and monthly meetings to communicate PFS development updates to key stakeholders
  • Develop effective water management processes
  • Design and optimize underground mine infrastructure, including ramps, raises, and electrical and dewatering systems
  • Provide ventilation engineering support, including simulations and network designs
  • Conduct regular field trips to assess compliance with plans and safety standards
  • Complete month-end actuals and corporate reporting as required
  • Establish or assist in the development of JHA's and SOP's
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to junior staff members
  • Support geotechnical monitoring, ground support, and designing support systems for underground operations
  • Maintain and foster company-contractor relations
Requirements
  • A degree in Mining Engineering and around 10 years of experience in underground mining operations or technical consulting (UG)
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Canada, with a preference for registration in the Northwest Territories
  • PMP certification or experience in project scheduling and execution
  • Hands-on planning and operation experience in sub-level caving and block caving mining methods
  • Experience in creating capital forecasts, financial modeling, and economic modeling
  • Proven experience in multiple areas, including mine design, scheduling, ventilation design, and drill and blast
  • Proficiency in Deswik and familiarity with other relevant software programs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills (English)
  • Leadership, planning, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of general mining safety requirements and procedures
  • Proven time management and decision-making skills
  • Class 5 driver's license
  • Experience working in the mining industry, northern Canada, and an understanding of the northern regulatory environment
