Legal Counsel, Commercial Law Specialist

Ourcommons is seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel to join our team. As a Legal Counsel, you will provide expert legal advice and services to Members of Parliament and officials of the House of Commons. Your responsibilities will include providing comprehensive and expert legal advice on complex issues related to constitutional law, parliamentary law, administrative law, contracts and procurement, privacy law, and employment law. You will work under the direction of a Senior Counsel and Team Leader, Legal Services, and will be engaged in the democratic law-making process. To be successful in this role, you will require a law degree from a recognized university and experience in providing expert legal advice on public law issues. You will also need to be able to provide strategic and timely legal advice on complex legal issues. Knowledge of contract law and procurement law, employment law, and parliamentary law are assets. Each bilingual position is assigned a linguistic profile that identifies the level of second language proficiency for reading comprehension, written expression, and oral interaction required.
