As a key member of the R&D team based in Saskatoon, SK, the Senior Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, development, and testing of protective relays, including ground-fault relays and circuit interrupters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electronics Design: Spearhead the design and development of intricate electronic systems from initial concept through to production, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Circuit Design: Develop detailed circuit schematics, perform circuit analysis and simulations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance design performance, cost-efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • PCB Layout: Supervise the PCB layout process, ensuring meticulous attention to signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal management.
  • Component Selection: Assess and choose electronic components based on performance metrics, availability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Prototype Testing: Work alongside the prototyping team to construct and evaluate prototypes, troubleshoot challenges, and refine designs for ongoing enhancement.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Engage closely with hardware and software engineers, as well as other stakeholders, to ensure cohesive integration of electronic systems within the overall product framework.
  • Documentation: Produce thorough design documentation, including specifications, testing protocols, and reports, to support effective communication and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Guarantee that designs meet applicable industry standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in an electronics design capacity.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with engineers, management, and external clients.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities and a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools, preferably Altium.
  • Experience in mixed signal design is essential.
  • Familiarity with project management systems or subsystems.
  • Experience in embedded design (hardware and firmware) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of simulation applications is a plus.
  • Experience with line-voltage or high-power electronics is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages.
  • Understanding of UL/cUL/CE Standards and Certifications.
